MANAGEMENT IN THE TEACHER’S PROFESSIONAL PROFILE: CONTEMPORARY CHALLENGES

Abstract

The article highlights the issue of changes in the teacher’s professional profile caused by the implementation of the competency-based approach in the educational process of schools, in accordance with the reform of the entire education system in Ukraine — its content, goals, tasks, and strategic directions for the development of each level and structural unit. The historical development of schooling in our country has always been accompanied by transformations and innovations that evolved into major concepts and reforms. One such reform today is the «New Ukrainian School» Concept (2016), according to which the modernization of the educational process is promoted by changes in the teacher’s professional profile across various components; new requirements for professional activity through the systematization of pedagogical functions and specification of competencies; and by strengthening the managerial function.

The publication argues that the consideration of changes in the teacher’s professional profile within the academic field of educational management is determined by a competency framework that encompasses educational changes and requirements for teachers at both the legislative level of Ukraine and in accordance with European standards. In particular, it emphasizes the need to include in the professional profile (competency framework) the competencies defined in the Pedagogical Constitution of Europe (key competencies of a 21st-century educator).

The article stresses the importance and necessity for future teachers and heads of educational institutions to gain an in-depth understanding of the theoretical and practical foundations of management in education. These foundations significantly complement the portrait of the modern teacher —       an individual with a high level of scientific, professional, and personal competencies that enable the fulfillment of various professional functions and social roles. In line with current educational transformations, the teacher-manager must clearly understand that today’s educational space extends beyond the mere transmission of knowledge. In the context of innovation, this space has become one of personal development, and the teacher is no longer simply a knowledge transmitter and mentor but combines the roles of mentor, tutor, moderator, and coach, constructing an individualized educational path for each student. Therefore, the teacher today is a manager of cognition, a leader of students’ cognitive processes, and a professional in the field of management.
